Methodology

CNBC's The Dirty Dozen list in 2011 was based on their "reporting and analysis" and those listed were described as having "proven to be more than just a flash in the pan, with tremendous staying power over the past few years" and showing "no signs their careers are in danger of waning anytime soon".^[1] The 2012 list was based on polling of adult industry insiders, such as studio presidents, publicists, and porn stars, whose criteria included biggest fan bases, appearances on DVD covers that boost sales, and biggest popularity increases that past year.^[2] The 2013 and 2014 lists where based on the nominations those listed received at the AVN and XBIZ Awards.^[3]^[4] In addition to AVN and XBIZ nominations, a three-month average Google Trends ranking of those listed was incorporated into the methodology to compile the 2015 and 2016 lists.^[5]^[6]
