Anonymous editing is deactivated, to keep the highest possible standard and to reduce vandalism to a minimum.
History
The domain pornopedia.com can be traced back to January 22 2002.[1] Under the domain pornopedia.de was a German-language Wiki installed already on August 24 2004.[2]
Pornopedia in its present form was founded on June 26 2008 by Till Kraemer. The main domain was initially pornopedia.eu, but has been changed on Monday, February 14, 2011, to pornopedia.net and on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 to pornopedia.com. Under the domain pornopedia.de now is a German-language overview of all Pornopedia language versions.
In the period of November 1, until November 30, 2011 (UTC) the article about Pornopedia in the English Wikipedia was on position 366 of the most viewed articles in the scope of websites.[3] On Sunday, December 4 2011, the Schwedish Pornopedia has been installed.
Pornopedia is run by Till Kraemer, a former porn actor.

Goals
The first thing Pornopedia wants to achieve is to include as many actors and movies as possible, even if the articles are only stubs at first. The philosophy is: It's better to find little information about a topic than finding nothing. Afterwards, and partly already along the way, the existing articles will be expanded.
Use
For actors
Actors can create and update articles. They can announce current events like autograph sessions, shows, movie releases. The dates will be published in the section News in the article and in the news section on the main page.
For fans
Fans can find and add information about their favorite actors.
For companies
Companies can create and update articles about their products. They can announce current events like book and movie releases. The dates will be published in the section News in the article and in the news section on the main page.
Technology
Until August 2011, Pornopedia ran on two OpenBSD servers, which were located in San Diego, California, USA. On one server (OS: OpenBSD 4.6, 32 Bit; CPU: Intel Atom 330, 667MHz; RAM: 2GB; HD: 250GB SATA; IP: 64.156.192.213), were the MySQL databases, on the other server (OS: OpenBSD 4.5, 32 Bit; CPU: Intel Atom 330, 667MHz; RAM: 2GB; HD: 250GB SATA; IP: 64.156.192.209) services like Apache, PHP, FTP and E-Mail. Meanwhile the two Atoms have been replaced by a more powerful OpenBSD server, which is also located in San Diego and takes care of all services.
Financing
Pornopedia doesn't pursue profit optimization; all the incoming money will be invested in the project. There are no banner ads. server costs, domains, patent fees and legal expenses are financed by affiliate programs (use of tailored text links).
Decisions
Decisions were made democratically to a great extent and sometimes against the administrator (examples for this are "Kategorie:Big Tits" and "Kategorie:Foto gebraucht" on the German Pornopedia). The democratic understanding however ends, for example, where names for categories collide with correct spelling.
Press
Das Porno-ABC (The porn ABC)
The German men's magazine Coupé publishes a Pornopedia series called Das Porno-ABC ("The porn ABC") since issue 12/2009, presenting a sex act or fetish.
